A San Pedro Lobster Festival Guide for Belizean Travellers

A San Pedro Lobster Festival Guide for Belizean Travellers

Belize’s biggest summer celebration of the year is here! Lobster Fest season is upon us, and whether you love it for the flavorful food or the unique festivities, there will be plenty of opportunities to indulge this July. Kicking off the month will be San Pedro Town, with the lengthiest lobster fest of all. Not sure how to make the most of it? Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a returning Lobster Fest veteran, here’s a quick guide to the upcoming San Pedro Lobster Festival, taking place from July 1st to 11th.

Know Before You Go

Known for its week-long Lobster Crawl, San Pedro Lobster Festival brings together restaurants, bars, and businesses across the island to showcase creative lobster dishes, special menus, entertainment, and promotions. Visitors can spend their days moving from venue to venue, sampling food, meeting new people, and experiencing different parts of the island. The week culminates in the famous Block Party, where visitors can enjoy food, drinks, music, and activities in the heart of San Pedro Town. While the Lobster Crawl is comprised of all participating businesses, the grand Block Party that closes things off takes place at Saca Chispas Field in the heart of town.

Belizean Traveller Tip: Lobster Fest weekends are busy. Book your transportation and accommodations early, especially if you’re travelling as part of a group.

Travel to San Pedro is easiest and cheapest via water taxi at a cost of approximately $81 round trip. For those who want to make the most of their time on the island though, opt to take advantage of special deals on flights, like Tropic Air’s $60 Summer Sale. For maximum savings, combine a one-way flight to the island with a return via boat.

San Pedro Lobster Festival: How to Make A Weekend Out of It

Whether you plan to visit for the food of the block party fun, make the most of San Pedro Lobster Fest by turning it into a weekend escape.

Itinerary Option One – Lobster Crawl Weekend  | July 3rd – 5th

If you’re the type of traveller who enjoys discovering new restaurants and exploring at your own pace, the first weekend of Lobster Fest may be the perfect fit. Over three days, experience several Lobster Crawl venues, each offering a unique atmosphere and menu.

Day One: On July 3rd, arrive late in the evening and head to Castaway Belize Resort on the north side of the island for laid-back beachfront vibes. Be sure to collect your first Lobster Crawl stamp before dancing (or dining) the night away.

Day Two: Let Someplace South Cafe & Bar (Day Event) or Elvi’s Kitchen (Night Event) be the highlight of your Saturday. Someplace South offers a relaxed garden-style setting perfect for a leisurely lunch and a refreshing cocktail, while Elvi’s Kitchen remains one of San Pedro’s most iconic dining destinations and a must-visit stop regardless of the time of year. Between Lobster Crawl stops, take time to explore the island. Or, simply kick back and relax with a cocktail or two.

Day Three: On Sunday, make your way to Pirate’s Not-So-Secret Beach Bar & Grill for the day’s Lobster Crawl event. Since you’ll already be near Secret Beach, consider spending the afternoon there before heading home.

Belizean Traveller Tip: The Lobster Crawl Weekend is ideal for food lovers looking for a more relaxed festival experience. With fewer crowds than the Block Party Weekend, you’ll have more time to explore venues, discover new restaurants, and enjoy the island at your own pace.

Itinerary Option Two – Block Party Weekend  | July 10th – 12th

If you’re looking to experience the San Pedro Lobster Festival at its biggest and most energetic, plan your trip around the festival’s final weekend.

Day One: Arrive on Friday and head straight to Palapa Bar & Grill for the day’s Lobster Crawl event. Located over the water, Palapa is known for its laid-back atmosphere, seaside views, and lively social scene. It’s the perfect place to ease into a weekend on the island. Then, as evening approaches, make your way to The Truck Stop for diverse food vendors and live entertainment. It’s one of San Pedro’s most unique social spaces, and a must visit on any trip. Whether you’re grabbing dinner, enjoying live music, or challenging friends to a game of cornhole, it’s an easy place to spend the entire evening.

Day Two: Saturday is all about the main event. Start your day at Travellers, the final Lobster Crawl stop of the week. Be sure to collect your last passport stamp before the festivities begin. As the afternoon turns into evening, head to the Hon. Louis Sylvestre Sports Complex (Saca Chispas). The Block Party is the culmination of the week’s celebrations and features local vendors, live music, and a festival atmosphere unlike anything else on the island.

Day Three: After a full day of food and festivities, slow things down on Sunday. Rather than rushing back home, take advantage of one more day on the island. Grab breakfast from a local café, stroll through town, or simply spend a few hours relaxing by the water.

Ready to start planning your Lobster Fest escape? San Pedro comes alive during Lobster Fest, but some of the best experiences happen between the scheduled events. Make time to explore, support local businesses, and enjoy the island at your own pace. A little extra planning can turn your festival visit into a memorable Belizean Traveller weekend. Be sure to follow the official event page for festival updates.
